What’s Eating Barcelona: Barceloneta Food and Drinks

Barceloneta food and drinks scene offers plenty to those who dig a little deeper into the side streets. Barceloneta is one of my favorite areas to eat in Barcelona. It is hard to beat the views of the Mediterranean Sea while enjoying tasty tapas or seafood paella or a refreshing drink. In addition, some of the trendy restaurant and bar offerings match the views and are worth visiting.

Starting at the iconic W Hotel Barcelona is a long and inviting boardwalk. There are plenty of restaurants and chiringuitos (beachside snack bars) to satisfy your cravings. Make sure to grab a drink and enjoy the views.

You will find a charming town of small streets just off the boardwalk. Inside the Barceloneta streets are many hidden gems of restaurants, bars, and specialty tapas spots.

I’ve put together a list of my favorite Barceloneta food and drinks. Some are perfect for grabbing a few tapas dishes and moving on. Others are worth the full meal.

And then some spots are great to have my favorite drink and enjoy the Mediterranean Sea. My advice is to enjoy your surroundings and be social.

Barceloneta Food and Drinks

Jai-Ca Restaurant and Bar

This favorite Barceloneta food and drinks spot has a solid menu of tapas favorites. I love the seafood and prefer the grilled options.

Try the grilled gambas, or langostinos, razor clams, and Galician-style pulpo (octopus) is also a strong choice. Among my fried choices are calamari and patatas bravas.

I haven’t found many dishes that have disappointed. In addition, I recommend a few iced cold cervezas to wash it all down before moving on to another tapas spot. I always stop by when in town.

Address: Carrer de Genibra, 13 (the original location) Second location at Genibra, 9

Pez Vela Chiringuito

A very nicely designed open and airy beach restaurant and bar. With lots of seafood and paella choices their menu offers some great selections. The Galician octopus on the tapas menu is some of the best in town (see pic).

Throw in a bottle of rosé and their views of the Mediterranean from the terrace and it’s hard not to stay all day.

The location is right below the W Hotel at the beginning of the Barceloneta pier.

L’Ostia Barceloneta Restaurant

A high quality menu of tapas and traditional dishes. You will find this gem in a quaint Barceloneta courtyard.

Some tapas highlights include: grilled sardines, stewed oxtail, patatas bravas, and Galician octopus. For dessert don’t skip the crema catalana!

The restaurant has been family run since 1924 and should be on your list of places to eat.

Address: Placa de la Barceloneta, 1

Can Majo Restaurant

For a full dining experience this is worth the splurge. The fresh seafood here is amazing.

The restaurant has a charming dining room and an outdoor patio with sea views.

Highlights from my last visit include the langostino salad and John Dory grilled fish. Add a bottle of local cava to complement the meal.

Address: L’ Almirall Aixada, 23

La Bombeta Barceloneta Restaurant

For a no frills experience that packs a lot of punch. This classic tapas restaurant is a good stop and is fairly inexpensive.

They are famous for their spicy potato bombas that are filled with ground meat and topped with spicy aioli sauce. I would recommend ordering some with a cold cereveza.

Pair up a few additional tapas and enjoy the communal vibe.

Address: Carrer de la Maquinista, 3

Eclipse Bar at the W Hotel Barcelona

At one end of Barceloneta stands the iconic W Hotel Barcelona. It is one of the city’s signature modern architectural designs.

I’ve enjoyed staying at this wonderful hotel. One of the stand out experiences is the Eclipse Bar that is perched on the 26th floor. The panoramic views are amazing and should be experienced.

I recommend coming for a drink and time your visit so you can catch the sunset. The views of Barceloneta and the Mediterranen Sea are breath taking!

Address: W Barcelona, Placa de la Rosa dels Vents, 1

Bar La Delicioso Barceloneta Beach

Right along the boardwalk you will find this charming chiringuito. Expect the views to be amazing and you can drop by for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and cocktails.

I have made many stops for one of their signature cocktails: Spicy Coconut Mojito. Refreshing and well mixed.

I enjoy this cocktail with the summer breeze in the early evening. Pair with a couple of tapas and enjoy all that Barcelona and Barceloneta has to offer. Cheers!

Coconut Chili Mojito

malibu rum + fresh lime + mint + chilis + creme de coco and right on the Barceloneta Beach

One of my favorite beachside drinks. Enjoy!!!

Barceloneta is a wonderful neighborhood to visit. Taking your time and wandering along the Sea is a welcome break from the bustling City center.

With some advance planning and research you can avoid any tourist traps. You will also have a great Barceloneta food and drink experience.
